BRIGHTON
Outside the Box
The client’s brief was to deliver a completely unique pool and garden that compliments the Rob mills architecture of the home. When the client said think outside the box, a massive 10×7.5M circular pool and spa does exactly that. The pool is visual from inside with bay views, so a 23 x 23 mm blue gum wavy tile was chosen to bend around all the curves to ensure the colour palette correlated well with the colours of Port Phillip Bay.
Challenges included an existing underground water tank which dictated the size and position of the pool, established trees on the boundary line that the client wished to keep. The trees presented pool fence compliance issues that we overcame by hiding a 1.8 m tall fence behind the hedge allowing the space to be more open and visually appealing.
Circular steppers chosen to compliment the round elements, bollard & spike lights to illuminate, careful plant selection for form, texture and architectural foliage are all parts of the design asthetic. All plants were chosen for their ability to tolerate salt water whilst still complimenting the architecture to soften. For such a large pool the spaces need to feel in proportion.
THE HOUSE
The house with its assertive sculptural form demanded something unique to compliment and the theme being playing on the use of curves and circular aspects as it was very prominent inside and outside of the building.
THE POOL
The massive 10Mx7.5M circular pool serves as a bold centrepiece, drawing the eye and inviting relaxation. Although simple in its appearance it had to not compete with the architecture but to coexist.
