Heritage Overlay Plunge
On a heritage-overlay block in Surrey Hills, Nature’s Best Landscapes built a garden around a plunge pool the clients had already bought – craned in over the roof of the house, then finished by hand behind side access less than a metre wide. A self-contained pool house doubles as an entertaining space, designed as a deliberate architectural contrast to the Edwardian weatherboard home: dark cladding, ground concrete flooring, and flamed grey granite tying the hard landscaping together, with timber batten fencing as a consistent backdrop to the planting.
With heritage limits tightly rationing hard surface area, large stepping stones set through creeping thyme keep the paved footprint minimal while still reading as generous circulation. Bay trees anchor the boundaries, underplanted with myoporum, thyme and Raphiolepis for a soft, textured edge.
Layout
At the front, a redesigned fence and path, a centred water feature, a feature urn and lit pathway welcome visitors through to the heritage home after dark – a garden that is as true to the street as it is generous behind closed doors.
